Born and brought up in Halifax, West Yorkshire, I am fortunate to live in an area that overlooks the rolling Calderdale hillside. I never cease to be amazed at the changes in the scenery as the seasons change and the play of light shifts the landscape and colours across the hills and valleys. So many great artists and photographers have tried to capture the fascination of light in their work. It is, I think, one of the most transformational aspects of any painting or photograph, whether it be places, people, nature or still life. I am constantly striving to reflect passages of light and colour into my own work.
My interest in photography began many years ago when I studied it at University to accompany my teacher training. I became fascinated with the composition and lighting of subjects to bring out their character and substance; the thrill of developing traditional film in the darkroom followed by the excitement of seeing the final image emerging in the tray ……. nowadays, of course, the power of digital photography stretches the creative imagination even further!
Most of all, I enjoy the adventurous, discovery side of photography which develops a deeper appreciation of this wonderful world we live in. I hope my portfolio will continue to develop and do justice to it.
I am a Professional Nikon User; my kit includes a professional high end DSLR Nikon camera and best quality lenses. Importantly, the images on this website are based on high-resolution files taken with my Nikon to ensure high quality print.
My other passion in life is art. I think photography and art are wonderful complements to each other. In fact, I often use my photographs as a basis for some of my paintings. Some of my digital artwork is shown on this website. To view my other artwork in watercolours, acrylics, mixed media and Brusho, why not take a peek at my art websites: https://carriemckenzieart.co.uk and https://brusho.co.uk
